Lesson 174: Single vs Same Sound Double Consonants and Vowel Sounds (Word Building)

lesson image

The instructor:

Shows each word in the list and asks children to sound out the word. (Do not tell children the words. Let them figure it out on their own with prompting as necessary.)

Asks children to build the lesson words out of tiles and to point at each tile while making the associated sound.

Note that a vowel is short when there are two consonants having the same sound between it and the next vowel, and long when there is but one consonant between it and the next vowel.

Mastery occurs when the instructor points to any word on the list and children can sound it out on their own.
